3.2 – Murray Bunnet Family Farms

Murray Bunnet Family Farms

Murray Bunnet Family Farms would like to sell pork to Sackville CSA members and the board has approved his request.

Murray and Carolyn Bunnet have been farming in the Steeves Settlement area, near Petitcodiac, for almost 30 years.  Together with their children, the Bunnets sell naturally-raised pork, chickens, turkeys and eggs from their family farm.  Their pastured chicken always sell fast; so, if you want one order early!!!  Here are the livestock details:

1.                  Home Mixed Feed – only high quality whole grains ingredients are use.

2.                  No hormones or antibiotics.

3.                  Probiotics are used to promote their pig herd health (like the ones in yogurt)

4.                  Pigs are grown a little more slowly (180 days vs 135 days), the Bunnets believe that this gives their pork more flavour.

5.                  They are starting to smoke their own bacon (cured in salt – not chemically cured).  Sausage is available.

6.                  Their meat is slaughtered at a provincially inspected plant (D+A Meats).

How is it sold?

1.                  Bunnet Farm’s preferred sales method is to sell pork by the side or quarter.

2.                  Whole chickens are also available to those who order early.

3.                  Logistics – If people order sufficient pork it may be delivered in Sackville.  Alternatively, it is recommended that CSA members pool together to pick up their pork either at the farm or in Moncton.

How to buy.

Contact Bunnet Farms directly at 756-8261.  They also have a fax at 756-2374.  If there is a lot of interest pick-up or delivery will need to be coordinated.  Let Kent know and he will volunteer somebody…
